Logging and job output
What is it?
The SAP Data Services Connector writes its own log files locally on the host, in a log directory it creates under the installation directory. Job output retrieved through OpCon (using JORS) includes the same connector entries plus the SAP Data Services Trace Log returned by SAP Data Services.
This page describes where to look for each, what they contain, and how to read the entries.
At a glance
| Item | Where it lives | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Connector log files | The log directory under the connector installation directory | Created by the connector the first time it runs. |
| Log file naming | Active file bods.log; completed files in month-named subdirectories | Rolled files are named for the connector and the date with an index, for example log\2026-09\bods_2026-09-17.0.log. |
| OpCon job output | Retrieved via OpCon's JORS capability | Includes the same connector entries plus the embedded SAP Data Services Trace Log. |
| SAP Data Services Trace Log | Embedded inside the connector job output | Shown indented in the example below. |
How to read a connector log entry
Each entry carries a timestamp, a level, the component that produced it, and the message.
Common components you will see:
| Component | What it logs |
|---|---|
SAPDSConnector | Connector startup, configuration values, and final return code. |
SAPDSConnectionFactory | Logon, logout, RunBatchJob, getBatchJob, and getJobTraceLog web service calls, including the WSDL location and endpoint address. |
SAPDSConnectorImpl | The high-level connector flow for the requested function (START, TRACK, CANCEL, PING), including extracted parameters and the embedded SAP Data Services Trace Log. |
The SAP Data Services Trace Log itself appears indented under the JOB TRACE LOG banner inside the SAPDSConnectorImpl output.
Log example
The following example shows the sequence of a successful START of a job named HelloWorld, with the SAP Data Services Trace Log indented under the JOB TRACE LOG banner.
This example was captured from an earlier release. The component names and the entry layout differ from current output — use the component table above for what the current connector produces. The sequence of operations it shows is still accurate.

FAQs
Where are the connector log files stored?
In the log directory under the connector installation directory. The active file is bods.log; older files are in month-named subdirectories beneath log.
How many log files does the connector keep?
There is no limit. A new file starts each day, and a file rolls to a new index when it reaches 100 MB. Completed files are moved into a subdirectory named for the month and are retained indefinitely, so the log directory grows until you remove old files.
How do I retrieve job output for a SAP Data Services job? Use OpCon's JORS capability. The job output includes the SAP Data Services Trace Log content embedded in the connector log entries.
Where is the SAP Data Services Trace Log in the output?
Indented under the JOB TRACE LOG banner inside the BODSJobExecutorImpl output.
How do I increase the amount of detail in the connector log?
Set DEBUG=ON in Connector.config. See SAP Data Services Connector configuration. Set it back to OFF once the issue is captured.
Glossary
JORS — Job Output Retrieval Service. The OpCon component that retrieves job output from agents back to the OpCon server.
Trace Log — The execution log produced by SAP Data Services for each job run. The connector includes the Trace Log content in the OpCon job output.
bods.log — The connector's active log file, in the log directory under the connector installation directory. Completed files are rolled into month-named subdirectories and retained indefinitely.
Connector installation directory — The directory the connector was extracted into (for example, C:\Program Files\OpConxps\SAPDataServices). The log directory sits beneath it.
